Walks from Dunvegan, Skye: Gleann Airigh
One of many beautiful walks you can enjoy which start and end in Dunvegan village.
Summary
A wild walk to a viewpoint just above Dunvegan Village. Take your time to soak in the sites. This journey is an out and back - use the journey to appreciate all the little details of the route and see what new things you find on your return journey.
Walk or bike
Full out and back – 11km
Medium bog factor
Easy to medium depending on distance (you can cut it short if you like, as it is a linear route).
Directions
From the Skye Lodge guesthouse leave the driveway going up the hill towards the main road. Go all the way through Dunvegan village staying on the coastal road until you reach the carpark for Dunvegan castle on your right.
Enter the car park, past the castle shop, do not go up to the higher section but go towards the river. The gate to the path is on the left side of the river; note there may be cars parked in front of it making it harder to see.
The path from here is wide and obvious to follow, but may become boggy in places. You can walk as far as you like. The complete path will bring you out on the A850 around 5.5 km away from Dunvegan, with the only option being to walk along the road or retrace your steps.
Options
You could start or end the walk by joining the 2 church walk, or by checking out some of the jetty viewing points detailed in the Harbourside walk, or add on a couple of km to view the Fairy Bridge.
Highlights
Beautiful views a stone’s throw from the village.
Very high chance of seeing eagles along this route.
